I have two. A Chorkie (that’s Chihuahua/Yorkshire Terrier) and a Mini (or Toy to some) Australian (American to the AKC) Shepherd. I was confused for a while myself, since I’d always heard they were from the US anyway… bygones.
My two dogs.
The Chorkie, Tricksey, was a dog-sitting gone terribly wrong. An old family friend of Milady needed her dog looked after while she was out of the state on family business so we said we’d be happy to look after her for a month or two, which turned into three when the friend returned with shingles, then into 5 when she was subsequently hospitalized for COPD issues (she’s in good health as far as I know as of this writing, and I apologize for telling others’ business, but it’s for context).
Now, I’m no Nostradamus, but I kinda knew we were going to be her forever family about a week or so in but I never would be so crass as to ‘I told you so’ Milady. Unfortunately, she was never completely socialized as a puppy so she has been leash aggressive and obnoxiously over-alert the entire time we’ve had her, barking at every living thing she can see out the window. I’m learning more about dog behavior, however, because Luna, the Aussie, or Lunabear to those in the know, is the first pup I’ve raised. Technically, we had a puppy growing up but I was only about 4 or 5, so it don’t count.
Anyway, I’m on many journeys right now, and puppy trainer is one. I’m disappointed in the people I’ve been training with because I’ve been waiting for the next class for 5 months with no word on the next course so it may be time to move on, but we’ll see how far we can go. Luna is exceptionally smart and easy going, especially for an Aussie, and it’s been really easy to train her. She’s helping me train Tricksey, as well, and it’s nice to have a teacher’s pet that’s so eager to please. That was a joke I just realized I made, and I am sorry.
Updates to follow.
