Life in 2019. If you believe the mainstream media’s reporting on social media, you’d think we were heading for a cliff.
Who knows, maybe we are?
I doubt it, but I’m willing to entertain the notion. If the shrieking we hear from our extremes (which, let’s be honest, are the only ones who get any press) is correct from either side of the traditional left-right paradigm, we’re either going to destroy the planet or be overrun by barbarian hordes. Being who I am, I’d not be surprised if civilization was being overrun by barbarian hordes while the world was burning, but I’m known to be a bit dramatic.
Don’t know about you, but I think we live in a world where every bit of information we receive, and every method by which we receive it, is suspect. It’s easy to fall into a black whole of accusations, claims, faulty logic, debunked (and counter-debunked debunking) claims, bias, emotional grandstanding, junk science, and lengthy arguments about exactly what constitutes all of the above and never find any objective measure of the truth.
It’s annoying.
For this reason, I’m announcing my official policy (long-standing, but you don’t know that) of only having a firm stance on what constitutes right and wrong, and be willing to change my mind as to who’s the asshole as circumstances change and new information is obtained. That is all.
